Jerry started bowling at the age of 14 in Virginia Bowling Gardens in Virginia, Minnesota and moved to the Twin Cities to compete in the top leagues in 1951. He became Minnesota's first certified junior bowling instructor, conducting schools in the Twin City area and throughout the state. He was a member of the Hamm's Beer team that finished 4th in Team All-Events. Jerry won the All-Events title in 1958 in the Minneapolis City Tournament with a 1,867 total. That same year he won the Doubles Event with Bill Baden (HOF 1968). His highest American Bowling Congress Tournament finish is a 3rd place in Team Event. Jerry received his best tip from Jerry Kopvieler (HOF 1983) and Al Powers and Dwayne Brealt drilled his bowling equipment.
