Doyle started his bowling career by setting pins at KC Lanes when he was ten years old. He was also secretary of the junior league when he bowled at Melody Lanes in 1940. He then set pins at Ken's Lanes. One day, he set 110 games at $.05 a game. He set pins at Philly Navy Base in 1953 for the officer league at $.15 a game. Shortly after his military service in the United States Navy, Doyle became a mechanic in 1956 and assistant manager (his dad was manager) in 1964. He and his wife Joanne purchased Ken's Lanes in 1970. In 1976, he built and moved to the Doyle's Bowling Center. Doyle had two 300 games with his first bowled at Medina Lanes (5/4/1962). His high series of 806 was bowled at Lowry Lanes (2/19/1974) on games of 289, 217, 300. He bowled on the local All-Star Television show with Dick Weber as a partner and they bowled against Norm Abrams and Steve Nagy at Harkins Lanes in St. Paul, Minnesota. He had high game of 268. He bowled with the Grain Belt Beer team in the Minneapolis Traveling League and Minneapolis Masters. He was on the Bungalow Inn team in the Minneapolis Classic and Strawinski Classic. In 1958, Doyle shot 759 in the singles event at the Minnesota State Tournament at Lucky Lanes in St. Paul, Minnesota. He won the Actual Singles Title. It was the high for 58 years until 1984 when Don Rumpza eclipsed his mark. Doyle was President and Sergeant-at-arms of the Greater Minneapolis Bowling Proprietor's Association. |
